Back Yard Hardscaping and Pergola Construction We built a pergola, fence, retaining wall, and paver patio for this backyard retreat in Baltimore, MD.

The homeowners had been in their home for a few years. The previous owner did a great job on the interior work but left much to be desired in the back yard. There was an old concrete retaining wall that was failing and a chain fence that had to go.

The clients initially wanted a privacy fence installed and the wall replaced. Then during a meeting about fence styles they hit me with the idea of doing a pitched pergola under most of the space.

I thought it was a fantastic idea as pergolas can bring much form and function to any outdoor space (In the back of my mind I knew this meant cutting through a lot of concrete and digging some deep holes not only for the pergola but for the fence as well). We find some weird stuff sometimes during excavations, especially in older properties.

We moved a few tons of material out and in to complete this job. The clients love it, the inspector dug it, so it’s on to the next one. Oh and while we were there we fixed a leaky skylight that had been nagging the homeowner’s for a few weeks
